New iPad Coming to China on Friday, July 20 . Will will we have good
news for you today Apple announced that its new third generation iPad
will be finally coming to China on Friday, July 20.
Of course, readers might recall that Apple’s last major product launch in China, its iPhone 4S, did not go so well as fights among scalpers caused one Beijing store to cancel its launch.
According to Apple’s announcement, the company is making adjustments with this upcoming launch:
In China the new iPad will be available through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), select Apple Authorized Resellers and by reservation from Apple retail stores. Reservation requests will be accepted daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. beginning Thursday, July 19 for pick up the following day.
From the release:
The new iPad Wi-Fi models will be available in black or white for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model and $699 (US) for the 64GB model. The iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular models will be available for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model. Our readers in Hong Kong may recognize this sort of strategy, as the Apple tried an online registration system when the new iPad went on sale there back in March. But did that faze scalpers? Nope. They stubbornly lined up anyway.
It will be interesting to see how scalpers react at Apple Stores on the mainland. We certainly hope that nothing gets out of hand this time.
