Untethered iOS 5.1.1 iPhone 3GS And iPod Touch Jailbreak Now Working

A couple of days back we had reported that initial rounds of testing had concluded that iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak would not be supported by iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G. The good news is that Pod2g has confirmed untethered iOS 5.1.1 iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G to be working.

Despite the fact that jailbreak developers are hard at work, it is still not possible to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered. Older generation devices can currently be jailbroken semi-untethered on iOS 5.1.1, however devices such as New iPad, iPad 2 and iPhone 4S can not be jailbroken at all on iOS 5.1.1.

World renowned French iOS hacking guru Pod2g has been working very hard on this jailbreak and he has already confirmed that this iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is compatible with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, New iPad, iPad 2 and iPod touch 4G. Previously iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G were not supported, but now the issues have been resolved and these devices too will be able to be jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1.

Pod2g has offered no expected time for release, however it is reported that the release might take place at HITB SecConf in Amsterdam a couple of weeks from now. Let's just wait and see.
