Syria Bans The Use Of iPhone In The Country

The Syrian government has officially banned the use of iPhones in the country after some recent events in which Syrian protesters recorded videos of violence occurring within the country and uploaded the content online. The ban was put by the Customs Department of Syrian Finance Minister. According to the latest news the authorities will confiscate and prosecute anyone found with an iPhone.

The authorities say that people with iPhones in the Syrian Territory is a threat to the stability of Syria.

"It is enough for any tourist or guest visiting Syria to own an iPhone to be a spy suspect," said one activist speaking to the press.
"Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave on learning that his iconic device is banned in his home country," he further added.

Nothing was said about other smartphones if other smartphones like Androids etc will also get banned. But one big reason for this ban against iPhone is an iPhone and iPad application called Souria Wa Bas which was launched by the opposition last month. The application featured links to news and some gruesome videos of security forces beating the protesters and some other crucial material.

One needs to tell the Syrian Government that iPhone or iPad is just a medium that the protesters are using to raise their voice against oppression and cruelty. Banning the iPhone won’t do any good. President Bashar Al-Assad should now step down and allow opposition parties, as well as freedom of press, speech, and assembly.
