The image shown depicts the iPhone was in work back in 1983. Hartmut Esslinger was responsible for this design of iPhone. Don't forget that he was also responsible for the design of Apple II. He has also made the beautiful Sony-Wega Concept 51K.

In 1982 he entered into an exclusive $1,000,000 per year contract with Apple Computer to create a design strategy which transformed Apple from a “Silicon Valley Start-Up” into a global brand. Setting up shop in California for the first time, Esslinger and Frogdesign created the “Snow White design language” which was applied to all Apple product lines from 1984 to 1990, commencing with the Apple IIc and including the Macintosh computer.”
One thing which can be assumed from this image is that Apple was already working for a touch interface device. But at that time, About 24 years ago from the release of the iPhone 2G, that device had Stylus. Which is removed from the 2007's iPhone.
The iPhone was released first time in 2007 by Steve Jobs and indeed it was one of the revolutionary product in the tech industry. Because it was the first device having Multi touch, iPod and was without Stylus. The design of that iPhone was also the finest design. However, the redesigned iPhone, iPhone 4 has still one of the best designs in the SmartPhone industry.
