Hey guys, I'm so happy to finally see iOS 5 untethered! I just started coming here a few days ago, but I'm not too now to the Jailbreaking scene. Anyway, I'm running a 3GS on 4.2.1(iPad Baseband unlock). I downloaded stock iOS 5.0.1 and used Redsn0w to preserve the base band, entered pwn DFU, and tried to restore in iTunes, but keep getting the 3194 error. I was reading and found that it was an issue with the host file, so I changed the host file, rebooted my PC and it still fails. Any ideas?

for those who already has an untethered jailbroken device with a previous ios version, first update your phone using itunes ( download and update using itunes only as i tried shift update using the downloaded ios and it didnt work)
sometimes your phone might restore cydia and the cracked apps from your previous version. restart the phone in this case. and then use redsnow. else you will be stuck in recovery loop.

But the major problem is that I can't install most of the cydia tweaks or applications due to some mobile substrate problem. Also many of the source packages are not being added to cydia.

After trying it three or four times it finally worked. The last time I got the error I just let it sit and then it progressed. I have another problem though... all of my apps that were in folders are now scattered on the springboard and sbsettins isn't working... I'm guessing that even though cydia says all my packages are still installed (yes, cydia runs), they are not. None of my third party apps are showing up in "settings" either.

First I installed the IOS 5 from itunes and this upgraded my baseband i asume. then afterwards a dis the jailbreak success but when i turn on my cell phone im stuck on this menu where it only lets me configure language, country, location and wifi. After this im stuck where it says activating sim. The phone doesn't to any more. What do I do?

I just went from having 5.01 semi tethered to the untethered version. Now in itunes for some reason the other category has 4 gigs in it. any ideas on what to look for. I googled it but nothing has fixed it yet. is there somewhere specific I should look in the iphone directory?

So i used this jailbreak and everything was going fine... put it into DFU and went through the process. everything appeared to be working good, but after it said it completed my ipod restarted and now it just keeps turning itself back off and on. it never gets past the apple logo and i cant put it back into DFU... whats going on???

It is because you jailbroke your iDevice over old jailbreak and did not uncheck install cydia while jailbreaking. I think you need to reset your phone now to factory state and do it again.

I jailbroke my verizon iphone 4 and when i try to download something from cydia it either says cannot comply or cannot locate sources.

BIGBOSSOURCE IS NOT EMPTY ... DELETE IT THEN RE-ADD IT and let it download everything (should take 1 minute) just wait until it says return to cydia.. then it should work!

A LITTLE WORD OF ADVICE... if u get a hang on any part of the proccess, all u have to do is turn i)pod/phone off and reboot pc and then plug in i)phone/pod to computer again and retry....it dosnt always work 1st time as ur computer needs to install apple drivers and such....

Oh and btw ppl u need to know, u are adivised to restore to ios5 if u r on ios4 or ur previous settings and apps (esspecially vwallpaper and sbsettings) are NOT cross compatable.

I have done 2 iphone 3gs, 2 iphone 4, and 3 ipod4's, all worked perfect....not 1st time tho....but thats life....

hey little bug update guys after install of installous and cydia says to restart springboard, when the ipod touch comes back on all that is on it is newsstand and everything else is gone but all you have to do to fix it is power off your device and start it back up and it is fine but it scared the crap outta me lol thanx guys

I seem to be having trouble - I either get no identifying data (attempting direct jailbreak), and if I select the IPSW file then jailbreak (the manual method) it gets through patching the kernel and asks if I want to install Cydia then it goes thru the DFU mode for my phone and then the basic exploits and then I get Exploit failed. This is on a Verizon iPhone 4 w/ iOS 5.0.1. Any tips?

Need help here plz? After successful untethered JB 5.0.1 I try to open Cydia to add http://cydia.hackulo.us after verifying the source and I click on "Add anyway" and beginning to download source but on the downloading and installing the source there is nothing come up I only see:

it give me infinite loop and few minute later the red and yellow message which is Host Unreachable, Cached Failure, Fail to fetch......
