Facebook is going to hire thousands of employees in the beginning of the year 2012 and to add Facebook’s first outpost beyond the West Coast in New York. Facebook is the world’s largest social network and currently it has about 3000 employees and about 800 million users.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Senator Charles E. Schumer joined Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, in the move which is a testament to New York’s fast growing technological profile.
Mr. Bloomberg aims to make New York the world’s number 1 hub for technology and social networking media.
“We will open Facebook NYC engineering office in early 2012” said Sheryl Sandberg, The Chief Operating Officer of Facebook.
“The User base and revenue are growing very rapidly. And that’s what we’re betting on.” She further added addressing the press.
At the moment Facebook has about 100 employees in New York. The vice president of engineering at Facebook told that they will start accepting applications for the jobs in New York immediately. The company aims on hiring a large number of talented and technical people who will help them designing and building the new generation of Facebook from the city which according to Schroepfer has a strong history of innovation.
Serkan Piantino, an engineering manager at Facebook will lead the new office in New York.
