Convert 5.0.1 Tethered Jailbreak to Untethered Jailbreak [Tutorial]

By  at Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Do you have 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak on your iDevice and wanna convert it to untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak ? Well, Chronic Dev-team was managed to fix this, as they have released a new Cydia tweak called Corona to let who have already tethered jailbreak 5.0.1 on their devices to update it to 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, let's see how to do this.

Note: If you didn't jailbreak your device yet, you should go to our step by step guide Posted Here, If you have already tethered 5.0.1 jailbreak on your device, continue reading the below steps.

Supported devices :
  • iPhone 4 (GSM - CDMA)
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPad 1

How to convert 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak to untethered jailbreak :

Open Cydia and search for "Corona 5.0.1 Untether", you will found it under the BigBoss repo for free. Install it. And now congratulations, you have untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak ;)

This article wouldn't suck so much if the package was actually in Cydia already... Thanks douchebag but it's either in a different BigBoss Repo that you didn't list or it hasn't been actually released yet - or you're just a real big dickhead either way thnks ass wipe!

I am running 5.0 tethered. How do I go about upgrading to 5.0.1 while keeping my cydia apps/tweaks. I was going to use the OTA update on 5.0 to get 5.0.1 then re-jailbreak 5.0.1 and install Corona but wanted to check with an expert first.

I have a semi-tether, so do i keep that as well as the untether?

It is possible to upgrade from 5.0 to 5.0.1, jailbreak it tethered, and finally use Corona. I've gone through that process. But I don't know if you can upgrade normally and then jailbreak untethered, noting my past experiences with jailbreaking.

Thanks.  I was able to go untethered after using Corona.  But it crashed the first I tried to reboot and had to run "just boot" in redsn0w to get it up running.  Then I tried a normal shut down and my 3GS finally booted up on its own without a cable.  Used redsn0w to jailbreak and have bb 06.15.00 (iPad) and iOS 5 .0.1.  Enjoying it withT-mobile SIM card and have no problems with my home wifi network.

It wasn't listed in my Cydia at first either. Just as dmitts said, you have to update your Cydia first. Then you should see it.

2nd anonymous: create a cydia account it will then save your info so when you re-jailbreak login and it will load your info.

Cheers mate works good but 1 more bit of info if you are running ultrasn0w to unlock carriers then after the first reboot of the fone go into cydia and reinstall ultrasn0w and try again. Again thanks mate worked mint on my tethered 3gs with 5.0.1 and 6.15.00 band.

Heeeyy I have a gevey sim, semi-tethered jailbreak running iOS 5 with a preserved baseband 4.10

Do I have to do the whole jailbreak process or just convert to untethered? And will my gevey sim still work after that?

The Year begins perfect :) and it works with Ac1dSn0w also... You ROCK !!!

Done! I was running a semi-untethered so I'll let it run out of battery life and see if it works! Thanks in advance!

Your post should say to update to get the latest cydia to get the corona package. Anyways, this is very useful. It works well on my ipod touch 4.
-Update Cydia to latest
-Corona already available after it was updated
-Installed Corona
-Restarted my Ipod touch and it was a success

My ipod touch 4 is now untethered jb..Thanks...
