Hi, i did the jailbreak in ios 5.0.1, all is working fine but I have a problem with the icons: this is not the tipical white icon in cydia (is not whitr) ir is that all that I download from cydia such as installous or iFile keep their icons white.
I jailbreaked it 2 times and boot with redsnow a lot of times and I still get the same problem.

Can someone please tell me. Is semi-untethered there just in case you run out of battery and you're not able to get to your computer? Because I just don't see the point in jailbreaking just yet otherwise.

Why post something that does not work. The version 5.0.1 is not supported by this version of redsn0w (0.9.9b8). This version only supports version 5.0 and after try to apply it gives error os build not supported. I'll still wait in version 4.3.3 :-)

Once you have jailbroken, you have to point Redsn0w to the ios5 ipsw file again, before clicking on "just boot" button, else you will get the error message.

Guys... It was clearly said at STEPS 4 : that you choose for iOs "5.0" not "5.0.1". If you choose "5.0.1" than Redsnow will throw you an error with unsupport IPSW. You have to CHOOSE iOS "5.0" on Steps 4, and Choose "5.0.1" on Steps 2.

I downloaded latest version of redsnow pointed it to the 5.0 after I updated to 5.01 chose jailbreak got white icon re dfu then chose boot only and it gives a unsupported build. Am I missing something

In order for this jailbreak to work you must point redsnow to th ios 5.0 IPSW even though your device is on 5.0.1.

Aight, I have successfully jailbroken both my 3gs and 4. I installed semitether and all and nothing has gone wrong. But after I have installed all of my favorite tweaks/cydia apps, I cannot reboot tethered. If my phone(s) go into a semitether state, they stay in a semitethered state, even after I boot tethered. I have used both reds0wn and ultrasn0w with the same results. Is it a certain tweak/app? Is anyone else having this problem? I can't find anything on the internet about it.

k, i got it to work!!! make sure to start cydia right after the jailbreaking process starts, it will crash, then turn it off, specify the ios 5.0 ipsw in "extras", then finally try "just boot thethered".

oh adding to comment that i wrote that said i got it to work, you have to do "just boot thethered" and it will say "exploiting with limera1n", then turn off your iphone/ipod, and put it back in dfu without exiting the open redsn0w that says it is still exploiting, and it should start working

**SOLUTION FOR UNSUPPORTED IPSW

Make sure you select the stock IPSW, not the generated one (No_BB...). You usually have to select it twice, the first time it will generate the No_BB... then you have to hit select again and point it back to the stock one.

I second Egizle. Have verified both success and failure. Attempting to use 5.0.1 IPSW WILL NOT WORK. This is similar to the jailbreak for 4.3.5 requiring you to use the 4.3.4 IPSW. Update your phone legitimately if you are using redsn0w, then point redsn0w at the 5.0 IPSW. Guaranteed will work.

I followed exactly the instructions given above – and tried it 3 times …. with the same result. Failure.
Im using redsnow 0.9.9b7. I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 – downloaded the 5.0 ISPW as instructed, and when it reboots after trying to install Cydia, my iPhone does not show Cydia is installed at all. (it show’s up with a blank white icon, and cannot be opened)
Although my iPhone goes thru all the motions of the installation, installing bundles etc.
Then if i try to do step 7. (boot tethered) – Redsnow tells me ‘unrecognised build’ ?? …. and some fingerprint number. ??

Open iTunes, restore your phone to 5.0.1... HOWEVER make sure you manually download the PREVIOUS version which is 5.0. Open Redsn0w, Extras, Select IPSW... point it at 5.0 EVEN THOUGH you just restored to 5.0.1 in iTunes... Jailbreak, then go back after its done, you have to go to extras, select the 5.0 IPSW AGAIN, then click the JUST BOOT... good as gold.

Redsnow 0.9.9b8 is still not working for me with MAC OS Lion while works on Windows Vista.
When I point iOS 5.0 ipsw file it says:

For the ones still having issue with Fingerprint: ee7cdd403626128aa160739c6417a44c8cb5d650" or not being able to boot, here's the missing steps:

1 - Pay REALLY CLOSE attention to what it says in Step 4: "Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file."
2 - If you don't understand the previous statment it says to select IPSW iOS 5.0!!! Please don't use iOS 5.0.1.
3 - HERE'S THE PROBLEM - Before you follow Step 7, redo Step 4 again - "Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file."
4 - Now you can follow Step 7 to properly reboot the device.

My guess is there's a bug with Redsn0w and it forget the IPSW file selected to jailbreak!!!

I have T-mobile on my sim card. So i went back and try to use version 0.9.9b6 to see if it would work for T-mobile. But it locked me out, so I went back and try to use version 0.9.9b8 again and this time my phone will not reboot. Please help!!

Guys try these steps, it works fine with me (same steps as written above) :
1) Restore to 5.0.1
2) open redsn0w and go to extras > Select IPSW, choose 5.0 (not 5.0.1) then do jailbreak.
after you finish, close redsn0w and re open it again.
now re do Step 2 then choose (just boot)

i kept getting Unrecognized build error till i restarted redsn0w and re do step 2 again

3) After you done close redsn0w and re open it again , then Re do step 2 (had to do this to get rido of (Unrecognized Build) error msg

Experience with jailbreaking/iPhone: I didn't know what a SHSH blob was until a few hours ago.

I had a few errors in the beginning, but after searching and searching for answers to my errors I came across this tut... And it is everything I could have asked for. I followed it to the Tee and I have gone from 3.1.2 to 5.0.1 on my 3GS with my old bootrom!

P.S. - There is no download link for the 5.0 IPSW mentioned in step 4. Also, I used 5.0.1 to restore to in itunes then in redsnow I selected the 5.0(5.0.0 / NOT 5.0.1) IPSW.

I NEVER installed SemiTether but I am able to reboot my iPhone 4 and make phone calls even though Cydia, Safari, email, etc won't work.
Is it a bug or the way it should work?

Mine seems to work- goes through the whole thing, but when it reboots, the little fan wheel just spins and freezes.

So as officially: THERE IS NO j'b for iOS 5.1, there won't be unless DevTeam updates redsn0w / etc to be compatible with the following update to iOS 5.
Unfortunately, if you were one of the 'lucky' ones to pwn your iDevice on iOS 5.1 using the iOS 5.0 ipsw, good luck along the way. I can only say that it's possible you might break something using an older version of the software to change a newer software (5.1). But for all I know it might not do much... at all.

if you read well, you'll see that when it sais "Select IPSW" you MUST SELECT IOS 5 not IOS 5.0.1

The jailbreak went fine but when doing the “Just boot” after I get the pineapple logo then the apple logo just keeps looping while turning itself on & off repeatedly Any help will be greatly appreciated!

My device is an iPod 4G, and I use OSX Lion.

I followed exactly the instructions noted above. Just in step 4 I didn't use the IPSW 5.0.1, instead I used the one I had saved from when I Jailbraked the IOS 5.0.0 (iPod4,1_5.0_9A334_Restore).

NOTE that the first or second attempt probably won't work but at the 3rd one it did for me.

After Jailbreak You should use the option "Justboot" two times. First, after doing the jailbreak. And second, after install AppSync for iOS 5.0. BE PATIENT, it worked for me again after one or two attempts.

ios 5.0.1 its still upgrading so dont try to jailbreak this ios cose non redsnow is supported

"just boot" is not working. everytime i click it, it always says "no identifying data fetched". what am i gonna do? i have an iPhone 3gs with an iPad baseband. please help me

this procedure made the trick
For the ones still having issue with Fingerprint: ee7cdd403626128aa160739c6417a44c8cb5d650" or not being able to boot, here's the missing steps:

1 - Pay REALLY CLOSE attention to what it says in Step 4: "Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file."
2 - If you don't understand the previous statment it says to select IPSW iOS 5.0!!! Please don't use iOS 5.0.1.
3 - HERE'S THE PROBLEM - Before you follow Step 7, redo Step 4 again - "Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file."
4 - Now you can follow Step 7 to properly reboot the device.

My guess is there's a bug with Redsn0w and it forget the IPSW file selected to jailbreak!!!

Step 7: Now open Redsn0w again and hit “Extras” then “Just Boot”.
Do not foloow step 7 it is wrong.
It should say..............
Step 7: Now open Redsn0w again and hit SELECT IPSW it will open the file you used to jailbreak then click OK.
Then click JUST BOOT.

Can a mod change step 7 to the correct steps?

IPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and 04.11.08 BB successfully jail broken and Cydia running, of course no way to unlock, but at least I have the JB. It took several attempts to get JB since you must follow the directions exactly, I was used to Pwnage. Hopefully there is work on a fully untethered JB and unlock for iPhone 4 with iOS5.1 and 04.12.00

i have downloaded ISPW but cant find it in the file? Have clicked on extras, select ISPW but cant find no files....help

Worked exactly as the procedure stated.. make sure you udate the iphone to iOS 5.0.1 first, then select iOS 5.0 in Redsnow, NOT iOS 5.0.1 and it will work fine and be at iOS 5.0.1 even though you told Redsnow to use iOS 5.0.

This jailbreak for the iphone does not work, I am using redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and pointing to iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore when i select the ISPW. When i go through the steps i just get the picture on my iphone of USB connect to itunes after i do the reboot, My iphone4 has already been updated to 5.0.1
What am I do wrong?????????????

Just worked for me. The crucial part is to make sure you have a fresh version of 5.0.1 installed if using a iphone 4 modem firmware 04.11.08. i tried for hours and until i did a fresh update it didnt work. good luck...

I have an Iphone 3GS locked to AT&T. Modem firmware 05.16.05, iOS 5.0.1. Above all, I need to unlock it. I don't care about jailbreaking, I just want it to work with a SIM-card from another service provider.

Will the above specified method work for me in terms of jailbreaking and unlocking my phone? Or do I have to downgrade the firmware first? Please advise.

I get to updating first stage and the display on my iPhone4 goes white, then nothing happens. I did update to 5.0.1 "over the air" so I am not sure if that makes a difference. Please help because I am stuck.

The page where you select "Install Cydia" checkbox, there is "Enable Multitasking Gestures" check box too. Does this work with iPhone4 iOS 5.0.1?

When I check it, I get the MT gestures option in Settings, after JB, but no MT gestures work at all. (It worked with iOS4 JB)

If this "Enable Multitasking Gestures" check box in Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 does not work, then why it's there?

firmware while using redSnow iPod4,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw

make sure you point it to ios 5.0 not 5.0.1 while using redSnow.

For those getting the unsupported message, you MUST close RedSnow before moving onto step 7.... then select the 5.0 ios file... IT WORKS GUYS!!!!

just go to ios downloader at the top and download 5.0.0 and run it like the instructions!

For White CYDIA icon just close the iphone and re open redsnow go to EXTRA et re select ipsw 5.0 and clic on JUST BOOT!!! that work
