i tried this and had problems on step 3, redsnow kept crashing (on win7 32 bit), if this happens run in windowsXP SP3 mode and as administrator

God I Cannot Wait Until Untethered Comes Out . It Took Me This ENTIRE Day Just To Install 6 Tweaks . I Had To Keep Rebooting With Redsn0w . And It VERY OFTEN Goes Into Safe Mode . So Then I Have To Restor My Whole Entire iPod And RE DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING All Over Again ! Tethered Sucks !

After I select the IPSW it then asks if my phone (3GS) is an newer model. I selected yes and then the window to select install cydia does not pop up.

Ok here are ur fixes - after u jailbreak and get white cydia icon, hook up to ur computer and do a boot only via redsnow.

Winerboard crashing? In cydia there is winterboad iOS 5 fixer this will stop ur iPhone from going I to safe mode.

Please note note all cydia app work on IOS5. Google to see which ones work

remember all those who get the silver/grey cydia square that doesnt do anything. You must run redsnow again as you did when you j/b it first but this time select "just boot" this will complete the j/b

Put you phone in DFU mode ( instructions come with redsn0w) and reboot using red snow after its has restarted the Cydia symbol should go normal and work.

Everyone who has a white or silver cydia should do "just boot with anything now" and it works out it happened to me

When you click cydia nothing happen .. it means you have not done the Boot tethered ..

I jailbroke it on my ipod 4g and everything went like how it was suppose to but when i tried to open cydia its just a blank square and when i click it nothing happens.What do i do.

to solve the "cydia just a white icon that does nothing" problem. after you jailbreak, which you successfully did, make sure your idevice is plugged into your computer, open redsn0w, then click on extras,click on just boot. make sure your device is powered off, and in dfu mode. it gives you instructions when you click on "just boot"

After I successfully downloaded Cydia, I then proceeded and downloaded/installed a JB app and now I'm stuck in the reboot mode showing the Apple logo. I can't just turn off the phone.

I get a problem saying that temperature. ipad needs to cool down in jailbreak reboot...

I had the same problem, but then i put it into dfu mode and then used 'just boot' from redsnow and it worked fine.

if your wondering why you can't get it into DFU mode when you device is bith off and plugged in it is because it doesn't work... you must have it on and plugged in for it to work.

Damn, it's been so long since the iOS 5 was released and why is there no Jailbreak for the iPhone 4 / iPod Touch 4...

you have to enter the dfu mode to restore it. look online how to do that.

Works perfect on my Verizon iPhone 4 with IOS 5. Every now and then enters "safe mode" but does not stop phone from working. Just takes a little tinkering to get use to how to "just boot" in the correct order. I like it. I MUST have iblacklist working on my phone, and it does with redsn0w jailbreak. Just sayin...

I did this TETHERED jailbreak to my iPod 4g.

After 1 month I went to Cydia and saw that Appsync has new update. Then I updated it (and it wasn't connected to computer at that time) and then there comes ''restart springboard'' I pressed that and then it got stuck to that point when it's loading to turn off the device. After 10 hours the same thing, stuck. I have tried to turn it on with Redsn0w many times. And tried to return it to factory default settings but nothing works!

WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO GET IT WORK ?!??!?!

YOU GUYS NEED TO DOWNLOAD IPHONE 3,1_5.0_9A3....IPSW THAT THE CORRECT FILE WHICH IS 5.0 IPSW INSTEAD OF 5.1 IPSW. * redsn0w can’t automatically jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. You need to point it to a iOS 5.0 IPSW.
* STEP 1 in the tutorial above tells you to download iOS 5.0.1 for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. This is wrong: the screenshot in STEP 3 correctly shows an iPhone 5.0 file.

1. Find and download a 5.0 IPSW (for example, iPad1,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw).
2. Run redsn0w. (I’m using redsn0w_mac_0.9.9b7.)
3. Click Extras.
4. Click Select IPSW, and then browse to the iOS 5.0 file you downloaded in my step 1. A file called something like iPad1,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw is no good: you’ll get a fingerprint error.
5. Click Back.
6. Click Jailbreak.

Once your device is jailbroken, you need to enable Cydia and get rid of its white icon:

1. Run redsn0w.
2. Click Extras.
3. Click Select IPSW, and then browse to the iOS 5.0 file you downloaded in my step 1.
