Netflix App Update With Support For Android 2.2 and 2.3

After what seems like eternity, it looks like Netflix has finally solved the miseries of those Android users who run Android 2.2 Froyo or Android 2.3 Gingerbread on their devices. The Netflix Android app has been updated to add support for Android versions 2.2 and 2.3.

With this new update, the Netflix Android app is now compatible with over 80% of Android devices all around the globe. When this app was initially launched back in May 2011, it only supported 5 Android devices. Netflix has been quite slow with updating their app as the next update came in July 2011 which supported a total of 24 Android devices.

However now with this new Netflix update, around 80% of all Android owners will be able to use this app and the service. To use the Netflix streaming service on your Android smartphone, you will first have to download this 20 MB app on your device. Then you have to create a Netflix account and subscribe to the streaming service which costs $7.99 per month.

Tablet devices running Android have been left out of this update. Only two Android devices are compatible with the Netflix app and surprisingly support for all tablets hasn't been added in Netflix for Android version 1.4. It is expected that tablet support will follow in the next update. Let's just hope that it comes out sooner.
