When I tried to install custom firmware i got this msg: "...cannot be restored at this time because iTunes server could not be contacted..." Tried several times and always got this error. Why? iTunes is v. 10.2.2 and the mac's firewall is off... Where is the problem?

Hi,

So, I had updated my iPhone 4 directly from itunes by clicking on Update there. Now, how do I jailbreak it? Because it seems like we now need to create a custom firmware before updating it. Does that mean I cannot jailbreak it now?

Please let me know.

I'm a bit confused, but it IS my first attempt at jailbreaking. The screenshot in your tutorial (and the message that Pwnage shows after it's finished) says "Restore with your custom firmware bundle". However, your instructions just below that say "Select the PRE-JAILBROKEN custom 4.3.3 firmware .ipsw file, then click on “Open”. I followed your instructions (rather than restoring to the newly-created "custom" .ipsw) and my iPod reverted back to its state just before I attempted the jailbreak. Should I have "restored" to the newly-created "custom .ipsw" that Pwnage created for me? I'm not UNHAPPY that my iPod was restored to its original settings, but I'd like to know if I did something incorrectly by following your tutorial? Can you please clarify? Neither Cydian nor Installer are anywhere on my iPod Touch. Thank you for your help.

Charles you have to double click on the general settings before you build the custom IPSW and deselect Activate Phone. Once you uncheck Activate Phone then you can proceed without any issues. I ran into the same problem on the 4.3.2 update and had to redo the whole process.

hi. quick question: i just recently jailbroke (?) my girlfriend's ipod because she wanted to get something like swype. however, the option that was available isn't satisfactory. my question is: can i go back to the factory ipod? like, before it was jailbroken? or is it stuck this way? i'm thinking it's stuck this way, but i just wanted to make sure. thanks.
